What is the Silk Mark Certification? Why It Matters When Buying Silk
The Silk Mark India label guarantees 100% pure silk — no synthetics, no blends. Learn how to verify authentic silk certification and why Maa Hiya carries it on every product.

What is the Silk Mark?
The Silk Mark is an assurance label launched by the Central Silk Board, Government of India, under the Ministry of Textiles. It certifies that a product is made of 100% pure natural silk — with no synthetic fibres, no blended yarns, and no artificial silk substitutes.
Think of it as hallmarking for silk — similar to BIS hallmarking for gold. The Silk Mark label is issued after laboratory testing of the silk content and can only be affixed by registered Silk Mark Organisation members who pass annual audits.
How to Read the Silk Mark Label
An authentic Silk Mark label includes a unique barcode that can be scanned and verified online at silkmark.in. The label also shows the type of silk (Muga, Mulberry/Paat, Eri, Tussar), the weave type, and the registered member number of the seller.
Every product from Maa Hiya Silk Factory carries a Silk Mark label. You can verify authenticity by scanning the barcode on the label or by checking our membership number against the official Silk Mark Organisation registry.
- ✦Look for the official Silk Mark hologram label on the saree or its tag
- ✦Scan the barcode at silkmark.in to verify authenticity
- ✦The label must state the silk type: Muga, Mulberry, Eri, or Tussar
- ✦Unregistered sellers cannot legally display the Silk Mark label
Why Buy Silk Mark Certified Silk?
The Indian silk market is flooded with synthetic imitations — art silk, banana silk, viscose sarees — sold as 'pure silk' to unsuspecting buyers. These synthetics cost a fraction of real silk to produce but are often sold at near-silk prices. Without certification, there is no reliable way to tell them apart by look alone.
When you buy Silk Mark certified silk from Maa Hiya, you are guaranteed: 100% natural silk fibre, authentic Assamese handloom weave, fair wages to our artisan families in Sualkuchi, and a product that will retain its beauty for decades of careful use.
